Why Volunteer?

Do you want to learn new skills,  get out and meet people and make new friends? Do you want to make a difference in your community?

Thousands of people of all ages volunteer in Hampshire and the choice of opportunities is endless.

  1. You could be a driver, a shop assistant, a counsellor or befriender, working directly with people.
  2. You could help out behind the scenes or offer your IT, finance or admin skills to groups which desperately need this kind of expertise.
  3. You could be a trustee or school governor making board-level decisions or a fund-raiser persuading others to put their hands in their pockets.
  4. You could get out in the fresh air gardening, leading health walks, looking after animals or working on environmental projects.

Whatever your interests, there is a volunteering challenge for you

Poster Slogan Competition Winners

The winning entry ‘Volunteers Do It Willingly’ was submitted by Doreen Eames who is a volunteer at Moorgreen Hospital in West End. The winning slogan ‘Volunteers Do It Willingly’ will be used in a marketing campaign to launch national Volunteers’ Week. During the week, which is an annual celebration of volunteers and volunteering, voluntary and community groups show how important volunteering is to the community, to service users and to volunteers themselves. ‘Volunteers Do It Willingly’ will be appearing on 1000 posters across Hampshire over the next year. As well as the satisfaction of seeing her slogan on posters across Hampshire, Doreen Eames received prize money of £100.
Hampshire Volunteer Centres were overwhelmed with entries, receiving nearly 200 suggestions. The second prize was awarded to Sherianne Gooden-Husbands for ‘Volunteer – We all have something to give’ and the third prize was won by Adam Marsden for ‘Give a little, gain a lot’. Both slogans will be used in Hampshire Volunteer Centres’ marketing leaflets and all three winning entries will be used on the network’s website. Congratulations to all three winners!
